TestEasy

We make medical testing easy

TestEasy is a fictitious example business, devised by Conflux for use in learning sessions, workshops and masterclasses.

We use the TestEasy example to illustrate aspects of the thinking, practices and decision making needed to evolve teams and organizations towards fast flow and agility.

Note: any likeness to real people or organizations is unintentional.

TestEasy is a healthcare company (2022: Revenue: £32m; Employees: 150) providing personal testing kits for a variety of medical conditions including viruses, parasitic infections and gut health.

Business problem

The height of the pandemic was an opportunity for TestEasy to rapidly expand, creating a 1000% increase in revenue 2019 to 2020. Profits have since dipped despite attempts to diversify their portfolio with new product lines and acquisitions. The economic downturn and rising fuel prices are affecting lab and logistics costs. However, the majority of cost (£15m) is employees, with a third (50) in IT maintaining and trying to build new products upon their mangled tech estate: “like trying to farm on a field of rocks and snakes” as one senior engineer referred to it.

Meanwhile, customers are beginning to get frustrated. Some orders have ‘got lost’ in the system. Results have taken longer than expected for some tests due to data issues between the labs’ software and that of healthcare providers. Some results have never shown up in patients’ health records requiring them to retake tests. This is making the organization uneasy, fearing that their contracts with healthcare providers may not be renewed. TestEasy is heavily reliant on technology to support and enable its business, from ordering and payment, through to labs and results.
